This week long national education initiative will involve activities that demonstrate the positive role young people can have in making their school and community safer.
North Dade Youth & Family Coalition presents Lessons in Jazz April 15, 2016 hosted by St. Thomas University, 16401 NW 37th Ave, Miami Gardens, FL 33054 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Lessons in Jazz is an innovative initiative to address community violence. At a time in our history when a major movie producer titles a film “Chiraq” because there are more youth being killed on our urban streets than in a war torn country – innovation is vital.
Lessons in Jazz is a call to action to all those affected by violence — all age groups and walks of life. It is not a rally or a prayer breakfast nor a walk for justice, but rather a joint effort that engages both adults and youth in strategic planning moves toward peace in the streets. Whether you like hip hop or jazz, we invite you to join us in this initiative to reduce community violence.
Lessons in Jazz fuses music from the past with music of the present (called sampling) and is used as a catalyst for social change, bridging generations to develop common interests and common values toward a strategic plan.
Lessons in Jazz was created by Kevin “Moose” Anderson, Program of Operations Director at the all new essence of Hampton University, heard on 88.1 WHOV radio and Sirius XM Channel 42 WHOV Fresh Radio. He has offered Lessons in Jazz to hundreds of youth and adults throughout Virginia. Mr. Anderson and his co-host Montez “Whiz” Martin will host the April 15th event and set the stage for violence reduction using Music Conflict Transformation.
